MVP Rankings

As of 03/03/2011

24.6 PPG, 8.2 APG, 4.4 RPG

Derrick Rose has been sensational. He has had an incredible season thus far and has taken the Bulls to new heights. With Rose’s style of play, the Bulls could finish 1st in the East, which lands Rose at #1 for this week’s rankings.

26.2 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 7.2 APG

Lebron James is Lebron James. Some expected his play to deteriorate when he first went to Miami but he has proved them wrong. His power, will and unselfishness have led the superstar to #2 spot in the East, and possibly another MVP award. With the way Lebron and the Heat are playing, they could make a run to the Finals.

23.3 PPG, 13.2 RPG, 2.2 BPG

Dwight Howard is a monster. We all knew that. He is one of the most consistent players in the NBA and will sometimes go off the charts (like the other night when he had 40 & 15 against OKC). If his team was doing better, he’d be higher in the rankings. As simple as that.

25.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4.9 APG

Kobe has had an up and down season, and, therefore, so have the Lakers. The reason why Kobe is ranked so high is because his Lakers are now on a win streak, he’s playing the way he has last year at this time and he’s coming off an MVP from the All Star Game. Need more proof?

28.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 2.8 APG

Kevin Durant has had a tough week. A loss against the Lakers and another against the Magic. Two games where OKC could have proved their worthiness and made a statement. Durant struggled with his shooting (22-56) but did have 15 rebounds against the Magic (not an easy thing to do). Durant’s consistency throughout the year has kept him in the top 5, even though he had an off-week.

Honorable Mention (In no particular order):

Dirk Nowitzki; Dwayne Wade; Russel Westbrook; Manu Ginobili; Celtics' Big Four

Weekly thought: If only Kevin Love was on a winning team....

Every week, MVP rankings will be posted based on how players have played over the course of the season, with emphasis on the last week of play. The top 5 players who deserve the Most Valuable Player award will be ranked along with a reason for their ranking. There will also be honorable mentions for players who barely missed the top 5.

Note: These MVP Rankings are in no way official and are just an unbiased opinion. No one is meant to take offense.
